Who is the Holy Spirit?
The huge difference that God makes in our lives is very much the work of the Holy Spirit working with us. The great miracle of God of the change of life from murderer to saint is far more precious to Him than the apparently more dramatic walking on the water.
The Holy Spirit arrived on earth in dramatic style at Pentecost, 40 days after Jesus’ crucifixion in Jerusalem (Acts 2). He came with wind and flames of fire. This was not unexpected. Jesus had introduced Him on the night before He was crucified. The Spirit of God
The Spirit of Jesus comes to live in our lives and brings with Him the power to change, to live the kind of life that brings deep admiration from those around, not because of the great awards, but a deeper and more meaningful admiration: This is the kind of person I would like to be. Live by the Spirit.
The evidence that God is really working in us is seen not by the declarations we make, but by the love we show. Love is the first and foremost of the characteristics known as the fruit of the Spirit. The Spirit’s Fruit.
The Spirit is a spirit of unity within each believer. He brings to each one of us something of His own power in order that we together can do far more than any one person could. He gives each one a gift or gifts that are for the building up of the whole Church or body of believers. The Spirit’s Gifts.
The Holy Spirit is often treated as a thing, some commodity that we can use. This tragic abuse follows from our failure to understand that He is a person, not only a person but God alive and at work in us. The Spirit has a number of characteristics that are important to understand in order to treat Him with the deference that He deserves.
